To-Know Barbados
Familiarizing yourself with the eccentricities or commonalities of your next vacation destination could mean the difference between a trip of unbridled adventure and discovery, or one muddled with confusion and uncertainty. This guideline of logic is especially true in Barbados. From weather, to currency, to clothing, there are a handful of considerations to make when traveling this Caribbean country.
About the Weather…
Similar to any location, Barbados conditions are subject to change. So, even though the dry season spans December to May, and the hurricane season, June to November, neither should dictate when you visit.
About the Hotels…
West Coast (Gold Coast) – location of the country's finest hotels, calmest waters, and best nightlife.
South Coast – Many hotels and unpredictable waters make this locale an increasingly popular choice among eco-travelers and travelers on a budget.
Atlantic Coast – Because the waters there are grim for swimming, not very many hotels or restaurants exist or manage to thrive.
About the Currency…
The exchange rate in Barbados is around 1 USD to 1.98 BDS. Although most hotels will change currency out for you, it is still possible to simply shop with U.S. currency in Barbados at a rate of 1.95 USD to 2 BDS.
About Getting Around…
Taxis are as common as they are in most cities and function on a government controlled rate quoted in BDS.
Three types of busses exist in Barbados—Government bus (blue), Private bus (yellow), Private mini-van (white with burgundy stripe).
About clothing…
It is against the law to wear camouflage clothing of any type or to any degree while vacationing Barbados. Although you wouldn't necessarily get arrested for violating this law, your garment would more than likely be confiscated upon infraction.
