The Best Birdwatching at Asa Wright Nature Centre
Whether your infatuation is with birds, specifically, or the wildlife, in general, the Asa Wright Nature Centre of Trinidad submerses its guests in a sea of Aves indigenous to the island. A refuge for all animalia, but catering to the livelihood of bird species, this habitat and hotel create and ideal environment for bird-watching or a sedate vacation buried in the lush jungle overgrowth of a secluded Caribbean sanctuary. Guests to this little paradise experience beautiful wildlife and flora and fauna interacting with the natural surroundings.
Asa Wright is not a vacation-style resort. There are no nightly parties, clubs adjacent to the property, and the big draw for this hotel isn't the five-star dining—although it is a colorful exhibition of authentic Trinidad cuisine. The Nature Centre's main attraction are the countless species of bird and the veranda from which guests can best appreciate them.

Unlike other hotels on the island, this one is especially catered to the early-to-bed, early-to-rise breed of guest who knows that the premier time to experience Asa Wright's birds is during the waxing hours of the morning; they even offer tea and coffee beginning at 6 in the morning to aid the transition and breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30. A guided tour is also provided a little later and is essential to any stay at the Centre.
Discover a myriad of exotic animals and plants with bizarre names; harlequin beetles, honeycreepers, powder puffs, and bananaquits are only a taste.
Afternoons are just as relaxed and sleepy as the mornings, as an afternoon tea is served, followed by a pre-dinner rum punch to squelch any apprehension.
A combination of unique animalia, fresh and creative cuisine, and a lulling atmosphere make Asa Wright Nature Centre the ideal tourism spot for the season birdwatcher, even those in search of the epitome of stress-free vacations.
